Event + response = outcome. A tough call, a benching and a loss are all events. Each coach and player owns his response, and the response shapes what happens next.
Oak Park's reputation for academic excellence translates to the field with the coaches' focus on developing players' game IQ and decision making. Skill matters. It is coached at every practice. Physical strength and speed matter. Investments of time in the weight room or working on speed can pay big dividends on the field. But the coaches believe that in winning vs the most challenging opponents, the critical difference is mental toughness, communication, and game IQ.

- A dedicated Head of Player Development brings D1 college champion level skill work to every practice. Coach Sam makes time for team drills and for focused, 1:1 development in the areas of greatest opportunity for each player.
- A growing program
- Oak Park boys lacrosse closely supports the United Youth Lacrosse program. Oak Park high school players coach United K-8 recreational league players and model ideal sportsmanship, work ethic, and teamwork standards.

Meet the coaches
Kevin Doohan
Starting varsity midfielder at Immaculate Heart Academy and club midfielder at Rochester Institute of Technology. He led boys lacrosse to the Coastal Canyon League title in 2026, his first season at Oak Park.
Sam Vollen
Syracuse defenseman and 1995 NCAA Division I national champion. Nearly 30 years of playing and coaching, with former players he coached going on to Princeton, Johns Hopkins and Loyola.
Nat Bjerkaas
All-conference defender at Moorpark College and a multi-year all-star at Oak Park High School. He has the longest Oak Park coaching tenure on staff, and his mastery of the game, especially defense, is unquestionable.
